I love wearing and knitting hand knit socks. However, I have pretty unique tastes in hand knits and it isn’t often I find a book with more than one pattern I like. Nancy Bush’s “Knitting on the Road” is a fantastic exception! I love most of the patterns in this book. My favorite pattern so far is “Conway” which I knit using my favorite cottage industry yarn “Dream in Color – Starry.” (Picture included.) Like many of the patterns in the book, “Conway” is filled with cables. However, Nancy Bush includes lacey patterns, color work patterns, simple patterns and more complex patterns. Pattern directions are clear and easy to follow and include charts. The book opens with a review of knitting techniques. Various sock yarns are listed along with manufacturer information. An introduction to each sock pattern includes information about the location that forms the inspiration for each individual sock pattern. Apparently these patterns were created while the author traveled the world. The book itself is spiral bound so it stays open while being used making it easier to knit patterns straight out of the book without copying them first. All in all this is one of my favorite sock pattern books and I would highly recommend it.All of a sudden I have an overwhelming urge to do some sock knitting. . .
