This is the latest in a series by Monica Ferris (nom de plume) set in a needle crafts shop in a small (real?) town by a lake in Minnesota. It has that cozy, I-wish-I-could-really-be-there atmosphere for all those who love the needle arts. Betsy, the 'detective'/shop owner protagonist, has an uncanny ability to sift through facts which either elude or confound the local police. Her knowledge of needle arts is always a key factor in this ability, as it is in this book.In this installment of a mystery series that I hope goes on forever, she has two customers who may be long-lost sisters. One customer knows about it and comes to town from Texas because of it. The other has a large, complicated family which the author takes pains keeping straight for the reader, and very deftly too. Then there is the very wealthy older aunt with the odd will. How does she fit into the plot?Along with the mystery, Ms. Ferris helps the reader understand the world of needle arts with class settings and clever descriptions of what the students are doing while discussing the issues of the case. This one teaches those who wish to learn how to knit socks. Some of her books have even included full patterns! How can you go wrong with a terrific story AND learning a new skill??!!This is the best of Ms. Ferris' books in this series, with more characters that are well developed, more settings and complications in the plot. Her previous books have been a bit better in giving the reader the feel of the locale to the point of smelling the air. This one focuses on the more complicated story instead. The stories have grown from the simplistic, naive stage at the beginning of her series into a well-rounded one in this riveting book worthy of stage or screen. They can only get better!Personally, I cannot WAIT for the next in the series!
